What is Pediatric PT?

In a nutshell, it’s all about tricking kids into exercising through the use of games, play, and adapted activities.

There is a lot more to pediatric physical therapy than just fun and games, of course. Pediatric PTs help babies, children, teens, and young adults improve their strength and mobility in order to enhance their functional independence and participation in activities at home, in school, and with their peers.

We work closely with children and their families to identify the goals that matter most to them, and then aim to meet those goals by focusing on muscle strength, range of motion, balance, and mobility skills. Pediatric PTs focus on development as a process, keeping in mind the unique needs that are specific to  each age, stage, and diagnosis. Our job is a beautiful blend of science and creativity, pairing technical evidence-based practices with fun activities, play, and songs!

Pediatric PTs can help children learn to take their first steps, rehabilitate after a sports injury, and learn to use their first wheelchair. Experiencing these “firsts” with little ones is my favorite part of the job! If your little one is behind in their development, recovering from an injury, or having trouble moving or walking due to another condition, contact us to see how physical therapy can help!
